Big Miley News
I’m going to see her perform at a high school down the road later today. What a fabulous end to a fabulous (economic Armageddon notwithstanding) year.

1. Target. 2. Pushing large shopping cart without hitting anybody 3. Driving to breakfast, Target, and movie theatre. 4. Parking ticket 5. Showing up to a movie with only 20 minutes to spare and not having to sit in the front row. 6. Assigned seating in said movie theatre (Arclight!) 7. 75 degrees in December.

More hours in the day. Please more hours in the...
That thought has popped into my mind more often in the last month than perhaps at any other time in my life. I just turned in a story that’s acted like one of those ankle bracelets people on house arrest must wear to alert the authorites when they’re out in the world having fun, so I treated myself to huevos rancheros and I’m about to go a see a movie. Trouble is there are SIX...

An observation about my writing: I use the word JUST entirely too often.

Snot and Christmas.
Wandering around Carmel right now in the dark, on foot, looking for any open vendor selling Benadryl. What a disaster.

Wishbones and the 101
When you are in southern California and you need to get to northern California (by land) there are basically two routes: the 5 or the 101. The former is a quicker, straight shot right up through the dusty, desolate gut of the Golden State, while the latter is an impossibly gorgeous— albeit a couple of hours longer— route that somewhat hugs the Pacific up the coast. When I was at...

This is how exhausted I was last night.
While walking to my connecting flight at O’Hare I spotted someone I knew from college—a person I actually like and haven’t seen in a couple years—and I kept walking because I was too tired to make conversation. I actually got a good night’s sleep, though, and I think I’m raring to go for this amazing night ahead of me. I’m going to buy a new camera...

A new reason to hate U2 →
crumbler: They’re selling a ninety-six dollar version of their new album. As if I needed another reason. How bloated is thy ego, Bono?

– From a report in the British tabloid the Sun, regarding Madonna’s alleged hook-up with a 21-year-old model named Jesus. Posted here because I think the concept of ficando is incredibly useful and worth transplanting into English. (via crumbler)

Bacon, Terminal K.
That’s exactly what it sounds like. Pirate hit the motherload at the Corner Bakery in O’Hare and got a bunch of bacon intended for club paninis. He is now back in his bag and hopefully in a food coma that will last him the next six hours. My flight to the OC was delayed for an hour or so, but we’re hopefully boarding soon. I’m still feeling sicky and I’ve got another...

Yikes
It’s a good thing I got here an uncharacteristicly two and a half hours early. This check-in line is the slowest moving queue I’ve ever been in.

California, here we come.
In a cab on the way to tbe airport after a stellar farewell brunch at 7A with Neil. As sad as I am to leave everyone here for the next month or so I must admit I’m not at all bummed to leave this slushy gross weather behind. I’m a little nervous about my flights getting off the ground, though. I connect in Chicago because it was like $400 cheaper, which means added stress with the dog...

Does anyone else remember when Coldplay used to be...
Remember in 2000 when that beautiful little record called Parachutes came out? Back when an unknown singer named Chris Martin tried his best to channel Jeff Buckley and wrote sweet, melancholy little ditties you could hang your hat on? Back before he hooked up with Gwyneth Paltrow and decided he wanted to sound like Bono Lite? Yeah. I do. And I’m listening to Parachutes right now and...

She buzzes like a fridge.
I’ve got a zillion things to do before I leave tomorrow for a month, not including the three parties I would like to stop by tonight. And all I really want to do is retreat into a Benadryl haze and let my body fight off this virus. What a horrible day for it to be 23 degrees feels like 11.

Please excuse the radio silence..
I managed to elude winter viruses valiantly until yesterday when I was struck down by a nasty bug. Now I just really, really want to get better for all the holiday parties tomorrow night and my flight to CA on Sunday. Plus I am hanging out with someone amazing on Monday and I need to be my best. This is the worst possible time to get sick. Ughghghg.

Le sigh
I just rode the elevator with the hot Frenchman who lives down the hall. I haven’t seen him in about six months (he and his wife spend most of their time in Westchester). He loves Pirate but I stopped the dog from jumping all over him because he was in a tux and his shoes were more shiny than any shoes I have ever seen. I told him so, and he said he was headed to a Masquerade Ball at...
