Hi there. I’ve spent the week researching high schools for a massive piece I’m working on. I just came across the wikipedia page for the high school listed above and found this under notable alumni. I can’t tell you how much I appreciated the laugh.

Justin Little (Class of 2000) – Basically, just a random guy that liked beer, tobacco products, and fishing.
Haig Lea (Class of 2000) – Former standout catcher and offensive lineman who inexplicably dyed his hair orange during his senior year.
Walker Whitley (Class of 2002) – Excessively tall right-handed pitcher. His finishing move is known as the “Walk-Walk Squeeze.”
The Brook Valley Fats (Class of 2003) – A small group of portly kids that were constantly on the receiving end of the Razors Edge flying clothesline at the Brook Valley Pool.

I’m fiddling around with Pandora Radio right now and I’m having a hard time getting the darn thing to play a song I’m not already intimately familiar with. When I chose Wilco it loaded “High and Dry” by Radiohead, “Lost Cause” by Beck,” and “Airline to Heaven” by Billy Bragg. And when I typed in Rilo Kiley it gave me the Shins’ cover of “We Will Become Silhouettes,” “Rabbit Furcoat” by Jenny Lewis, and “The District Sleeps Tonight” by the Postal Service. Should I pick something more obscure? Christ.

A month ago I went to Other Music in the East Village and asked the boy behind the counter what new album he thought I would like. I rattled off some bands I’m into—Wilco, Rilo Kiley, Belle and Sebastian, the Beatles, etc.—and said he thought I’d dig Logos by Atlas Sound. He was right.

Our original plan today was to head to Connecticut for a game between my alma mater and Kendrick’s, but an extremely large frog has taken up residence in my throat and I have some on-camera work next week, so it’s bed and fluids for me.

For those of you looking for somewhere fun to watch some football this weekend, Guest of a Guest has a comprehensive guide.

I will be watching Big Game tonight from my couch. On Wednesday my right foot got into a fight with a piece of furniture and lost. When the dust settled I was left with one seriously broken toe, one maybe-broken toe, four table spoons of blood loss and a serious question about my locomotive detectors. In case you’re keeping score at home, I’ve now broken five of my twenty digits: right thumb and left ring finger; right pinkie, right ring, right middle toes. Only two more to go for a bingo on the right tootsie.

I’ve been able to catch DJ AM’s intervention series, Gone Too Far, on on-demand. (I have no idea when MTV is airing it so this is much easier for me). Anyway. It’s simply amazing. They don’t do enough follow-up to tell us if the kids AM tries to save actually get better, but what I like about the show is its protagonist is so likable, and his death from the very disease he spends the series fighting is unimaginably poignant. From the looks of it he was a solid dude. What a loss.

If you have Time Warner or Cox check it out on-demand. I think you can get it through Channel 1.

I remember Molly saying once that there’s no feeling quite like getting your favourite musicians to act like a personal jukebox. I would like to confirm this as a true statement.

I’m guessing this means Tori Amos played “Bouncing off Clouds” for my Australian friend Dan down in Canberra today. This is excellent news. I have no idea if she played it on this tour already or not, so if it was a debut: even better. I checked out the setlist and I would have LOVED to have heard “Boys in the Trees.”

Things have calmed down for me and I could totally go to one of these solo shows…if they weren’t in Australia. Sigh.

Siting outside overlooking the Pacific at dust. It’s November and a bit too cold for shorts but I’m wearing them anyway—with a hoodie, so I’m calling it a compromise. The fading sunlight is almost purple. Winter has a completely different hue than summer: midnight blues, violet, and silver have replaced cerulean, orange, and magenta. A decent breeze is helping a marine helicopter cut though the sky on its journey south toward Mexico.

I was reading someone else’s blog up until five minutes ago, completely oblivious to my surroundings. But then it got as quiet as it does when it snows on January mornings in New York City and the absence of sound captured my attention. I can hear the sea like I can hear the East River from my balcony on those blanketed winter days.

I had lunch with a friend today in Laguna. Soup and salad and great conversation. Tonight I will go out eat well and drink wine with another friend. This strikes me as a lot more productive than doing work—or sitting in front of the Internet or television. I don’t even really like TV that much so I have no idea why I watch it. Inertia, perhaps. I need to quit. It sucks the life out of me.
